Real fun at #MTNCelebdouble Invasion Party: MTN Ambs. appear in double

Lagos, Benin and Enugu witnessed real fun last weekend when the #MTNCelebdouble finally produced the company’s ambassadors’ look-alikes. It was hard to differentiate between most of the musical superstars and their close splitting images.

This resulted in momentary suspense, mixed with fun, as the hundreds of musical fans who thronged to the separate clubs, to be part of the Invasion, struggled to spot out the real image. The fans were thrilled to meet their idolised celebrities and the ‘doubles’. Continue...

In Lagos, precisely, at the ‘The Place’, the confusion of those present was exciting. While the music blasted away, Don Jazzy, Iyanya, Tiwa Savage and Chidinma walked in. The crowd was soon amazed as the striking resemblances of Davido, Wizkid, Praiz and D’Prince stepped in behind them. There were minutes of debates if they were the real ambassadors or the look-alikes they have come to party with it.

Wizkid’s double, Mbaefo Stanley, who resides in Port Harcourt, could not hold his joy at the sight of the celebrities and pomp around him. He expressed cheerfully, ‘this is one of my best nights’.
Like him, Ogbonna John who resides in Lagos, was ecstatic. He said, ‘I have always dreamed of this moments’. Also, David Fortune, D’Prince’s double and Odeka Arthur who looked perfectly like the Nigerian R & B singer and Headies Award winner, Praiz, said they would treasure the night for a long time.

Meanwhile, Iyanya, who wore a new look, enthusiastically appreciated the large turn-out, saying it gave him satisfaction to party with Nigerian musical fans and find someone who looked him. Don Jazzy and Tiwa Savage also expressed the same feeling while leaving the club located on Adeola Odeku, at the early hour of the morning.

In Benin, the celebdoubles bore an unbelievable resemblance to the actual celebs themselves. Prior to the actual party, they had been lodged in a luxurious hotel, taken on a shopping spree, given a high-class spa treatment, and spoilt silly.

One of the Celebdoubles was Adeoye Foyinsade who bears a striking resemblance to Tiwa Savage. She gushed over the entire privileges accorded her by MTN. "I really didn’t expect that it'd be this cool! Not only do I look like Tiwa Savage, from the way I have been treated all day, I think I might be her! Hanging out with everyone here caps it up nicely".

Similar experience was recorded in Enugu. Harrysong and Praiz were at the Toscana Hotel, the venue which hosted a massive crowd of fans who relived their fantasies of becoming those they idolized.

The two MTN ambassadors Praiz and Harrysong, performed some of their hit songs that made them so endearing. To crown it Praiz joked: “When I saw someone looking so much like me, I actually thought he was me, the semblance was on point”.

Don Jazzy to produce D’Banj’s next album

Former Mo’Hit partners , Don Jazzy and D’banj are set to work together again.

Afro pop star, D’Banj, recently disclosed this in an interview with UK radio and TV personality, Tim Westwood.

According to him, he is planning to do a Best of D’Banj album for his forthcoming 10th anniversary and to achieve this, he needs Don Jazzy on the team.

“For my 10th anniversary, I am thinking of doing the Best of D’Banj album and Don Jazzy will definitely produce it. I am going to make sure he does,” he said.

Nigerians To Start Receiving Adsense Payments Directly Into Bank Accounts

Earlier this morning, Google notified me of upcoming updates to my Adsense account which will affect my payment options. It was stated clearly in the notification mail that after the upgrade, express delivery secure checks and courier tracking numbers will be discontinued and I will be offered the option to receive my Adsense payments by international wire transfer.

If you don't know what wire transfer means, it is a method of electronic funds transfer that allows you to receive funds directly into your bank account. Wire transfer is a fast, secure, and reliable alternative to receiving payments by check. Unlike the secure check payment option, Google doesn't charge a fee to send wire transfer payments.

If you are a Nigerian Adsense publisher, you will have to add the details of your Nigerian bank account to your Adsense account if you want to receive your Adsense payments via Wire Transfer.

How To Add Bank Account To Google Adsense Account
After the upgrade is complete, you will have to follow the steps below to enter your banking information in your Google Adsense account:

==> Sign in to your AdSense account.
==> Click the gear icon in the upper right corner of any tab
==> From the drop-down list, select "Payments".
==> In the left sidebar menu, click Payment settings.
==> In the "Available forms of payment" section, click Add new form of payment.
==> Choose the radio button for “Funds transfer to bank account” and click Continue.
==> Enter your bank account information and click Confirm and continue.

That's all.

Your account will be updated and your next payment should arrive in your bank account within 4-10 days.

Did you also receive the notification mail?

What's your take on this?

Please, let me hear from you via comments.

PLEASE, share this with friends.

Nigeria set to become Africa’s biggest economy

(LAGOS, Nigeria)

Nigeria is set to overtake South Africa as the biggest economy in Africa with a long-overdue recount of its GDP that will give it continental bragging rights but do little for its 112 million people scrabbling to survive in desperate poverty.

That’s cause for reflection in longtime rival South Africa, the only African member of the G20 on the strength of its position as the continent’s economic powerhouse.

Nigerian Finance Minister Ngozi Ikonjo-Iweala is to announce new GDP figures Sunday to include previously uncounted industries like telecommunications, information technology, music, airlines, burgeoning online retail outlets and Nollywood film production that didn’t exist when the last GDP count was made in 1990. Then, there were 300,000 landlines. Today, Nigeria has 100 million cell phone users.

The new figures also will take account of growth in agriculture and tourism that have flourished since democracy was restored in 1999, ending decades of military dictatorship.

The new count could increase the monetary size of Nigeria’s economy by as much as 60 or 70 percent, analysts say. Ghana’s economy grew by 60 percent when it recalculated its goods and services production in 2012, and Kenya and Zambia are considering the same.

“Nigeria’s success is a reminder that Africa is moving ahead despite its current challenges,” said investment manager Kevin Daly of UK-based Aberdeen Asset Management, which invests in Africa. He pointed out that it is a Nigerian, billionaire Aliko Dangote, who is building Africa’s largest privately owned oil refinery.

Investors’ attention will be drawn by the fact that while oil remains the biggest source of government revenue, about 80 percent, oil production is declining while Nigeria’s agriculture, communications and service sectors are enjoying healthy growth.

“This helps to explain why many investors are now banking on a rising consumption story in the most populous country in Africa,” Daly said.

The revisions are expected to boost Nigeria’s per capita income of $1,555 a year for its 170 million people, but it will remain feeble beside South Africa’s $7,336 for its 48 million people. The International Monetary Fund currently puts Nigeria’s GDP at $292 billion and South Africa’s at $353 billion.

South Africa, bedeviled by mining strikes, violent protests over services and a lackluster performance that has kept annual growth at around 3.5 percent, still has infrastructure unrivaled on the continent, most notably a power sector that generates 10 times as much electricity as Nigeria.

Nigeria’s revised figures will lower its much-vaunted growth rate but also decrease an already low debt to GDP ratio of 21 percent, which should lower interest rates should the government want to borrow more, economists said.

Financial analyst Bismarck Rewane called the revisions “a vanity. The Nigerian population is not better off tomorrow because of that announcement. It doesn’t put more money in the bank, more food in their stomach. It changes nothing.”

Finance Minister Ikonjo-Iweala has said that Nigeria’s economy needs to grow at more than 7 percent to address massive poverty and youth unemployment. Government statistics say unemployment increased from 12.7 percent in 2007 to 23.9 percent in 2011; the World Bank says unemployment among young Nigerians stands at 38 percent but analysts say it is as high as 80 percent in many parts of the country.

Nigeria’s woes were highlighted in recent weeks by fuel shortages that had miles-long (kilometers-long) lines at gas stations with people in search of gas for cars, diesel for electricity generators and kerosene for cooking. Nigeria produces about 2.2 million barrels of petroleum a day but is forced to import refined fuels because hundreds of millions of dollars allocated to rehabilitate refineries have been stolen or mismanaged.

“We don’t want to rain on your parade, however, as Nigeria got richer per GDP, more and more Nigerians have gotten poorer,” social commentator Baba Adam wrote in an open letter quoting government statistics that indicate 67 percent of the population lives below the poverty line today, compared with 17 percent in 1980.

On the positive side, tens of thousands of Nigerians have been returning home from abroad since democracy returned, many setting up businesses that will be counted in the new statistics.

All eyes on Jim Iyke, Nadia Buari

Not a few people had dubbed star actor, Jim Iyke, Nigeria’s Leonardo DiCaprio. Reason is that they had given up on him changing his marital status.

Perhaps, they should not be blamed because Hollywood star, DiCaprio is still single, despite millions of female fans and a history of stunning girlfriends.

However, some fans of the Enugu-born actor had hoped and prayed that he finds his Miss Right some day. So, when the gist of Jim’s proposal to beautiful Ghanaian actress, Nadia Buari hits town, it received a massive reaction all across Africa.

Already, celebrity watchers are predicting that the nuptials of the big movie stars will be a major event on the continent, as there really are few couples as handsome and famous as the duo. But the question on many lips has to do with when exactly the couple will tie the knot.

Nigerian Idol: Contestant proposes to Nneka

Nigerian Idol judge, Nneka Egbuna, was bamboozled after the performance of one of the contestants in the second group of Top 30. Reason, the contestant proposed to her!

Xolani, a contestant from Calabar, presented the petite damsel with a red rose after going on his knees during his performance of Lady in Red, by Chris de Burgh.

However, Nneka had quickly recovered from the moment and quipped: “Awesome charisma! You were very in tune with the lyrics and you have a charming look and personality but I need you to be careful so you don’t lose yourself in the show.”

Graphic pics: Man beheads his father, eats his neck in Ebonyi state

30 year old Nwode Chukwudi Awam, was arrested last week for beheading his father, 56 year old Michael Awam and eating his neck. The Ebonyi State Police Command, who paraded the killer on Thursday April 3rd, said the incident occurred at Egwudinagu Obegu village in Ebonyi LGA of the state.

"When the police went for him, he was waving the machete which he used to cut his father’s head and threatening to kill anybody that gets close to him. He was overpowered all the same. He ate the neck’
"He was seen eating the entire stub of the neck. So when you look at the exhibit, the head doesn’t have the neck even though he did the beheading from the base of the shoulder. You will not see the part of the body that is supposed to be the neck; he ate it up. We can say that it is not unconnected with ritual because it does appear that he may have been asked to do such a thing." The State Police Public Relations Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police Chris Anyanwu, said Very graphics photos when you continue...

The suspect said he carried out the act after he heard a voice which told him to go to his village and kill his father.

His uncle, Mr. Joseph Nwite, said that the suspect had been away from home for over 6 years, adding “he just came back from Imo State and killed his father.

30 year old Law School student commits suicide in Taraba

A 30-year-old student of the Nigerian Law School, Abuja, Auwal Haruna, allegedly committed suicide on Monday by hanging himself on the ceiling fan in his hotel room in Takum.

The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Joseph Kwaji, confirmed the incident to newsmen in Jalingo on Monday, saying the matter was under investigation.

According to him, the body of the deceased was found dangling from a ceiling fan at Mairiga Guest Inn, Takum.

He said the deceased, until his death, was a suspect in a case of murder involving his younger brother, Ahmed, who allegedly connived with their mother, Aisha, to murder their father, Haruna Mohammed.

He said that the deceased’s brother (Ahmed), 27, was being detained for abducting and hanging his father to death in the suburb of Gembu over his father’s alleged marriage of a second wife against the wishes of his wife.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that there is an upsurge in suicide cases in Taraba.

Kwaji attributed the increase in cases of suicide to drug abuse and frustration.
“Most of these young men commit suicide as a result of drug abuse and frustration in life. Suicide is not the solution to our problems. Killing oneself is not only contrary to the laws of the land, but also against our religions,’’ Kwaji said.

NAN recalls that two incidents of suicide were recorded in Jalingo in February.

One involved a 400 Level student of the Taraba University, Friday Samson, 32, who poisoned himself to death over lack of funds to pay his school fees.

The other incident involved a watchman, Saidu Babura, 45, who hung himself on a tree at Hassan Primary School, Jalingo, after an alleged battle against drug abuse.

In January, 21 year-old Mansur Tanko burnt himself to death in Jalingo because his father, Tanko Mijinyawa, allegedly refused to approve of his plan to marry.

’7 Annoying Things Nigerians Do On Airplanes’

Do you really think ONLY Nigerians do these things on airplanes?

Like me, I bet you’ve all run around with your bathing towels wrapped above your shoulders like a cape and pretended to be Superman (and if you haven’t then it’s never too late!).

Ever since I was a little brat I wanted to take to the skies. Air travel is the next best thing and I’m always looking forward to having a glass plastic cup of ice-cold apple juice which always tastes better at 10,000 feet. What could possibly disrupt this moment of long-awaited bliss? Cue the Nigerians… On my recent return trip from Ethiopia alone I encountered 7 annoying things Nigerians did on the plane:

1. Securing beds…in Economy Class! There’s a game Nigerian passengers play whenever they’re on-board a semi-full airplane – It’s kind of similar to Musical Chairs…but without the music. Passengers snub the seats assigned to them and scout for a stretch of three to four empty seats before take-off. Handbags and other luggage items are strategically placed on empty seats in the hope for that Business Class experience – pathetic.

2. Making dramatic Nollywoodscenes. Whoever said ‘Rules are meant to be broken’ must have been a Nigerian. We’re pretty damn good at breaking rules…into smithereens, just for good measure. There was one woman sat at the front of economy class with her less-than-a-year-old baby. She put her baby down on the empty seat next to her when the seat belt light was off (not sure if that’s proper in the first place but I’ll let her off on that one). The moment the seat belt light was back on, however, one of the air hostesses called her to order and told her to strap her baby in place – RED ALERT! RED ALERT! MAY DAY! MAY DAY! You knew from the way the irritated mother turned her neck with that ‘oh-no-you-didn’t’ expression all over her face that cabin pressure was under serious threat. Needless today she told the air hostess to mind her own business – ironically, that’s what the air-hostess was trying to do in the first place…Safety of passengers…DUH! I can’t remember if the thud I heard later on was due to turbulence or because the baby had rolled off the chair…

3. Taking pictures. You can imagine trying to enjoy a good book when suddenly the corner of your eye picks up the flash photography of some newbie whose obviously hell-bent on convincing everyone back in Nigeria that he/she indeed travel abroad. Newsflash! There may be people with photosensitive epilepsy on-board or nearby pilots wondering if there is a terrorist hijacking, with one unfortunate Nigerian who decided to break one simple rule ‘DON’T MOVE!’ (go figure!)

4. Farting. It’s bad enough you left your assigned seat at the front and decided to come behind me and stretch yourself across four empty seats. Now you’re so generous as to share your flatulence with me in small doses of ammonia-laced farts…not a one-off…periodic discharges which could catch choke me unawares if I dare yawn. FYI, avoid fizzy drinks on the plane if you know you can’t handle your abdominal tract like few pros among us.

5. Drink to stupor. Is it the sheer pettiness of wanting to get one’s money’s worth that would make a passenger drink like a fish? (Remember, its Nigerians we’re talking about here). Of course, it’s not the drinking that bothers me but the mindless banter and laughter at completely ‘unfunny’ things that drives me up the Berlin wall (just like that – after a couple of drinks you’d be in stitches when you read ‘drive me up the berlin wall’).

6. Leaving toilets unlocked. Common sense consistently fails to prevail when most Nigerians use the airline’s restrooms. It all boils down to refusing to acknowledge the instructions/directions carefully displayed all around them. It’s quite simple – you enter the restroom and close it behind you. Right there on door is a slide lock which denotes ‘Slide left to lock and right to open’. Why wouldn’t I be interested in making sure that no one accidentally sees my ‘bits’? Didn’t they notice the green ‘vacant’ or the red ‘occupied’ sign before entering the lavatory? At my last count I’ve walked in on 3 unfortunate passengers who forgot to lock behind (but they all did once I exposed them…makes you wonder, eh?).

7. Sitting ovation. I’m not sure if you can relate but you’re nearing your flight destination and as soon as the plane lands successfully passengers around you start to clap until virtually everyone joins in. Why are they doing this, you ask? beats me – for landing safely or for not crashing into the deep blue sea or for getting their money’s worth after usurping the mini bar…I dunno. The clapping is cheesy in my opinion. I’d much prefer passengers go one by one to shake the pilot(s) for a job well done plane well-landed.

And coming in at a surprise number 8 is Irregular exercise. Make no mistake about it, Nigerians are terrified about premature death, more so than the average civilian (if that makes any sense). I’ve seen the most bizarre repetitions performed from kicking mid-air to punching only your left arm over the seat head in the same direction. Deep Vein thrombosis is no laughing matter so I guess all I have to do is close my eyes next time if I don’t want to behold seemingly amateurish ‘Kung-fu’.

See you on the next flight and God help you if you’re sitting next to me, lol
