Man dies while having marathon sex with varsity student in Ebonyi

A middle-aged man (pictured above) allegedly died while having sex with a female student at the Ebonyi State University's Presco female campus located at Goddy Ogbaga Avenue in Abakaliki the state capital.

Reports say the lover girl upon finding out that the man had died, moved his body to his car and then proceeded to the nearest police station to report the incident. She was later arrested and investigations is currently ongoing.

Police spokesperson in the state, Chris Anyanwu, confirmed the report to Tribune, but said he had not been fully briefed on the incident. "I have no details about the incident. I just made enquiry and I was told it happened at Goddy Ogbaga Avenue. I have not gotten any other information about it,” she said

Boko Haram kill 300 people in fresh attack in Borno State

According to reports, Boko Haram men struck again on Monday night May 5th, killing 300 people and burning several houses in Gamboru Ngala, in Borno state. The men reportedly came into town in armored personnel carrier and armed with Improvised Explosive Devices, petrol bombs, assault rifles and Rocket Propelled Launchers. They targeted the market in the town, shooting people and then proceeded to set ablaze houses and properties in the area.

Confirming the incident to BBC Hausa service in Maiduguri, Senator Ahmed Zannah who represents the area at the national assembly said the 12 hour attack happened in the night when the people were sleeping. Continue...

"The attackers stormed the communities in the night when residents were still sleeping, setting ablaze houses and shooting residents who tried to escape from the fire. About 300 persons were confirmed dead after the incident, with several others injured. Almost all the houses in the communities were destroyed by the hoodlums who threw IEDs at the buildings. My brother who was at the scene of the attack told me that the actual number of the dead cannot be ascertained but at least they are up to 300. In fact, as he spoke he wept following the high number of the dead bodies which littered the market.” he said
According to him, the Islamic sect men gained access to the town after the military men stationed there moved out to pursue the sect men following intelligence report that they were sighted at the Lake chad axis with some abducted girls

"It was just an hour after their withdrawal that the terrorists invaded the town, shooting everyone at sight and setting buildings on fire. So far 200 vehicles and thousands of houses, shops and an outfit of the Nigerian Customs Service, (NCS) were all burnt”, he explained

Suspected rapist drugs, attacks pupil inside bush

A suspected rapist in Osun state drugged and attacked a 15 year old secondary school student of Young Tajudeen Middle School, Ede, Osun for supposedly refusing him sex, Punch reports.


According to reports, on Wednesday April 30th, the victim who lived with her grandmother, had gone to the bush to pick mangoes when she was accosted by the alleged rapist who begged her for some mangoes. She said she obliged him but afterwards the man demanded for sex which refused. She said the man immediately forced a pill into her mouth which made her unconscious. By the time she woke up, there were machete cuts on her head, legs and wrist.

Explaining what happened, the girl said
"I went to the farm to pick mangoes on the day I was attacked. As I was heading for home, I met a man who asked me to give him some mangoes and I did. The man asked me of my name and I told him my name is Suweba, but my real name is (withheld). The man later said he wanted to have sex with me, but I told him I was too young for that. The man threatened to cut off my head if I didn’t oblige him. He held my head, forced my mouth open and dropped a white pill inside my mouth. I fell down and I became unconscious. I was attacked around 2pm and I woke up when it was getting dark maybe around 7pm. I managed to crawl to the footpath and shouted for help, but none came until the following morning.” she said

Passersby the next morning found the girl on the pathway and then immediately rushed her to the hospital where it was discovered that the wounds she sustained had already started decaying with maggots coming out from it.

Hospital staff, who described the attack as callous, believe the girl could have been attacked 48 hours before she was brought into the hospital and not the previous day as she said because of the maggot infested wound.

Hospital staff say they would conduct test on her to ascertain if she was truly raped.

Four injured in Ibadan gas explosion

•Residents panic

There was a gas explosion yesterday at Challenge in Ibadan, Oyo State.

It occurred around 3:15pm.

Four men were injured.

They are Oyelami Muftau, Ismail Raji, Paul Sunday and Muili Ahmed.

Three of the victims were admitted at Lad Hospital and the fourth was referred to the University College Hospital (UCH) for intensive care.

The administrator of Lad Hospital, Mr. Lawal Oladimeji, said those in the hospital were responding to treatment.

A Volkswagen Passat Saloon Car, marked PH 381 KJA; a Nissan Saloon car, AL 461 AKN; and a commercial motorcycle, marked GBY 278 QB, were burnt.

Residents of Orita Challenge initially thought the explosion, which occurred a few miles away from a police station, was caused by a bomb planted by the Boko Haram sect.

A bomb disposal van, marked NPF 1745-C, was stationed in the area with a team of policemen from the Police Headquarters.

It was discovered that the explosion was caused by a gas leakage from a gas refilling plant, Hephzibah Petroleum Ltd.

The company’s Chief Executive Officer, Mrs. Modupe Ademiluwa, expressed shock over the incident but thanked God that no one died.

Police spokesperson Olabisi Clet-Ilobanafor described it as an industrial accident, saying: “At about 3pm today, the police command was alerted of an explosion. When we got there, we discovered it was an accident from a gas refilling plant. A taxi, a Passat vehicle and an Okada were burnt. It was an industrial accident, not that somebody planted a bomb. Oyo State is safe and calm.”

She urged the public to go about their businesses without fear.

Calabar school girls protest Chibok abduction

Over 2, 000 secondary schools girls in Calabar, Cross River State, on Monday took to the streets to demand unconditional release of the abducted students of Government Girls Secondary School, Chibok, Borno State.
The girls, dressed in black, and from different secondary schools in the state marched through major streets in Calabar with placards that read, “Bring back our little sisters,’ “Our girls are future mothers, free our daughters,” “Dialogue is the best option, not kidnapping of girls,” “Why use women as tools for negotiation,” “We need a safe and secure Nigeria, not abduction of girls” and “Free our girls, stop bombing and let’s talk” among others.
They were joined in the protest by members of the National Association of Cross River Students (NACRISS) and Civil Society and Non-Governmental organizations in the state.
Some of the students who spoke with The Nation said they were concerned about the plight of the abducted students whose fate still remains unknown.
They appealed to the Federal Government to ensure the urgent release of the kidnapped girls.
“The victims and their parents should be saved the trauma they are passing through. These innocent girls should not be made sacrificial lambs.
“Today, it is students of Government Girls Secondary School, Chibok, tomorrow some other persons may be affected,” one of the students said.
The Co-ordinator, Basic Rights Counsel Initiative (a civil society organization), Comrade James Ibor, who also participated in the protest march said the safety of lives and property should be given priority attention by government.

Abducted girls: Obasanjo’s wife, Ogun First Lady join protest

Wife of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Wife of the Governor of Ogun State, Mrs. Olufunso Amosun, her husband, Senator Ibikunle Amosun and Iyalode Alaba Lawson, leading a cross section of women in Ogun State to demand for the immediate release of the abducted schoolgirls in Chibok during the solidarity Walk organised by Mrs. Amosun in Abeokuta..





Former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s wife, Mrs. Bola Obasanjo and wife of Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun; Mrs. Olufunso Amosun, on Monday joined hundreds of women in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, to protest the abduction of over 200 female students of a government college in Chibok, Borno State.

The protest which began at about 8am at the M.K.O Abiola Stadium, Kuto area took the women through IBB Boulevard and terminated at the Ogun State House of Assembly complex, where Mrs. Amosun presented their protest letter to the Speaker, Suraj Adekunbi , for onward delivery to President Goodluck Jonathan.
The protesters also took their grievance to the Governor’s Office, Oke-Mosan.
At the Governor’s office, they met Governor Amosun and demanded action from the federal government as well as unconditional and safe release of the innocent school girls by their abductors.
The Iyalode of Yorubaland, Chief (Mrs.) Alaba Lawson; members of the International Federation of Women Lawyers, market women and female artisans, among others took part in the protest march.

The women, who deplored the girls’ abduction displayed placards bearing various inscriptions: “Kidnapped school girls must be found,” “Our girls are not sex machine,” “Bring back our girls,””Haba!, this is barbaric in the 21st century” and “Let all our women rise to save our girls.”

At the Ogun State Assembly complex, the state Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs. Elizabeth Sonubi, who addressed the lawmakers called on states and National Assembly members to take action towards freeing the girls from the terrorists.

Sonubi also appealed to President Jonathan to help secure the girls’ release.

South Sudan rebels refute UN claims of mass killings

South Sudan’s rebel commander has refuted claims that rebels systematically killed hundreds of civilians, when they captured the oil town of Bentiu. The United Nations last month said rebel forces had slaughtered men, women and children hiding in a mosque, church and hospital, after capturing Bentiu, picking out their victims according to their ethnicity.


Meanwhile a south Sudanese military spokesperson says government troops have captured a rebel stronghold and taken back control of another town sending rebels fleeing towards the Ethiopian border. This offensive comes just days after President Salva Kiir told Us Secretary of State that he was ready to hold peace talks with rebel leader and former vice president Riek Machar after a peace deal failed

WFP says almost 6 million are in need of humanitarian assistance in South Sudan

Almost six million people in South Sudan are in need of humanitarian assistance.

The World Food Programme says the country is heading towards one of the worst food catastrophes of the last 30 years. WFP adds that it is short of over 200 million dollars in an emergency request made to feed one million people.


A donor’s conference is set for May 20th. UNICEF also warns that up to 50 thousand children could die of malnutrition this year. Thousands have been killed in recent ethnically targeted massacres in South Sudan

Meanwhile Parties in the south Sudan conflict have begun face to face negotiation.

The talks taking place in Ethiopia’s capital Addis Ababa are aimed at ending a four-month-old civil war. According to regional mediators ceasefire is high on the Agenda.The talks which were scheduled for Monday had been postponed several times due to disagreements between the two factions.

 

The resumption of talks comes amid mounting global outrage over a wave of atrocities committed by both sides in the conflict, with both government forces loyal to President Salva Kiir and rebels backing ex-vice president Riek Machar implicated in massacres, rapes, attacks on UN bases and child soldier recruitment. Aid workers are also warning that the country is at risk from famine.

At least 32 people killed by suspected Bodo rebels in northeastern state forcing thousands to flee for safety.




At least 32 people from the minority Muslim community have been killed by the suspected Bodo rebels in two days of violence in India's northeastern Assam state.

The attackers sprayed bullets on people before setting more than 40 houses on fire. Thousands of people have fled their homes for safety.

Relatives of victims, who refused to bury their dead, finally performed the last rites on Sunday after the government promised to punish the culprits and provide security.

At least three rebels have been killed by the army, which has been deployed in the region following the killings.

In similar attacks nearly two years ago, Bodo rebels killed about 100 people and forced more than 400,000 people to flee their homes.
