Dolce and Gabba found guilty of Tax Evasion

Creative Directors of D&G, Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana have been found guilty of tax evasion to the tune of $1.3bn. The verdict was announced this afternoon after hours of consideration by a three-judge panel who decided to uphold last June's guilty verdict that saw the designers both sentenced to 20-months in prison for allegedly committing tax evasion, Vogue UK reports.

The alleged crime is said to have been a result of the sale of their Dolce & Gabbana and D&G brands to the Luxembourg-based holding company Gado Srl in 2004. Dolce & Gabbana have always denied the charges and promptly appealed last year's decision with their legal representative. But the appeal has been denied and both men are now facing prison time

'Kill public officials who steal above N1million' – TUC president

President of the TUC, Bobboi Kaigama during a lecture at the Faculty of Environmental Design and Management, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife yesterday, recommended the death penalty for any public official who is indicted in any financial crime above N1million.

During his lecture which was titled "‘Corruption and challenges in nation-building’, Kaigama said tougher sanctions such as his suggestion would make the government's crusade against corruption more sincere

"If the governments and legislators are truly sincere about the fight against corruption in the country, they must go tougher. Any public official, whether at the state or federal level, should be executed. Killing them after confirmation of any embezzlement allegation of more than N1m will lead us to the right path.

“I sincerely recommend an active process of legislation that would support that. It would also serve the nation well to have a law which not only provides for every public office holder to declare his assets on assuming office, but also stipulate that he must repeat the exercise each subsequent year that he is in office and not later than one month after vacating the office. Such declaration should be in at least three newspapers and not just to the Code of Conduct Bureau.” he said
He advocated for public officer's to be compelled to declare their assets when they assume office as well as get banned from occupying any political office if found guilty of any corruptible act. Who agrees with him?

Nigerians are world’s heaviest users of ATMs - Report

According to a recently released study by EY, a global business and financial advisory firm, Nigerian bank customers have been rated the heaviest users of Automated Teller Machines in the world. The study also rated Nigeria as one of the top three countries whose bank customers use social media when making decisions on selecting a financial service provider. The study also shows that Nigerian bank customers have the highest banking sensitivity and are the second highest globally to close accounts based on poor experience.

EY’s Advisory Banking Sector Leader for Africa, Mr. Colin Daley said in a statement that they came to the conclusion after sampling 32,000 bank customers in 43 countries including Kenya, Nigeria and South Africa.

"Nigerian bank customers have the highest level of trust for primary financial service providers in Africa and second globally behind India. Twenty-four per cent of Nigerian customers have experienced a problem with their banks that required resolution. Seventy-two per cent of customers were either very satisfied or satisfied with the response that they received. However, 28 per cent were less than satisfied

Lagos Police Command hunts ‘officer’ over alleged kidnap

The Lagos Police Command on Wednesday said it had sent out signals to police commands nationwide to track the fleeing policeman, who allegedly kidnapped an eight-year-old girl.
Spokesman of the command, DSP Ngozi Braide, told the News Agency of Nigeria in Lagos that so far no police formation in the Lagos State command had identified the suspect as one of its officers.
NAN reports that an eight-year-old girl was allegedly found under the bed of the suspect, said to be attached to Mopol 22 Squadron, GRA, Ikeja.
The suspect was alleged to have tied his victim’s legs and hands before hitting her on the head in an attempt to break her neck.
The girl was discovered under the suspect’s bed at his residence located at 1, Olufowobi Street, Ikosi-Ketu, Lagos.
Braide said: “We will get him.
“His pictures are already in all the papers.
“Whether he is a policeman or not is immaterial.
“We have sent signals to all police commands nationwide.
“We have gone to check for him at MOPOL 22 Squadron that is printed on his uniform, but nobody knows him.
“We have also checked other mobile police squadrons and still nobody knows him.
“We have sent signals to every police post and division within the command.
“We are not resting on our oars.
“If he is in this command, we will get him.
“If he is not in Lagos command, we will get him with the signals sent to other commands.”

Security: Senators to meet Jonathan

The Senate at Wednesday’s plenary mandated some of its members to meet with President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan on the security challenges confronting the nation.
The meeting is sequel to its deliberation on Tuesday during which the senators resolved that in order to curb the security challenges in the country, there was a need for synergy between the legislature and the executive.
The following senators, led by the Senate President, Senator Dxvid Mark, were mandated to meet with the President: Senators James Manager, Helen Esuene, Uche Chukwumerije, Chris Anyanwu, Barnabas Gemade, Zaynab Kure, Mohammed Ali Ndume, Ahmed Zanna, Maina Maaji Lawan, Buka Abba Ibrahim and Babafemi Ojudu.
The meeting which is scheduled for Wednesday (today) will take place at the Presidential Villa, Aso Rock, Abuja.
Meanwhile the Senate on Wednesday congratulated Nigerian workers on the occasion of the Workers Day, which takes place on Thursday.
According to Mark, the senators appreciated Nigerian workers for doing their best in a very difficult environment.
He said the legislature has a major responsibility to create a conducive environment for the workers through the laws they make and the motion they move.
The Senate subsequently dissolved into the Committee of the Whole to consider the report of the Joint Committee on FCT and Finance on the Federal Capital Internal Revenue Board Bill 2013.

UBA realigns to improve operational efficiency

In pursuit of its Project Alpha plans, United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc has announced key appointments to drive its quest for industry leadership by 2015.

UBA’s Project Alpha is a 3-year road map of key transformation initiatives, designed to reinforce the Group’s strategic positioning and leverage its huge Africa presence to fully exploit the burgeoning opportunities in Africa’s economic renaissance.

In order to accelerate the level of achievement of the Project Alpha objectives, the Group has announced the splitting of its operations into two broad divisions, UBA Africa and UBA Nigeria.

The UBA Africa Division will be made up of the 18 African country subsidiaries of the UBA Group outside Nigeria. UBA Africa will have a CEO supported by two Deputies along the Bank’s two core product lines: Wholesale Banking (comprising, Corporate Bank, Institutional Bank and Public Sector) and Retail Banking (comprising, Personal Banking and SME Banking).

Kennedy Uzoka, Deputy Managing Director, has been appointed as the Chief Executive Officer, UBA Africa while Emeke Iweriebor, an Executive Director, has been appointed UBA Africa Deputy CEO, Retail Bank; and Oliver Alawuba is now UBA Africa Deputy CEO, Wholesale Bank.

According to Phillips Oduoza, Group Managing Director, “the newly created UBA Africa Division will grow and deepen the bank’s presence in member countries, optimise the synergies within the network, deepen service delivery excellence, and promote cultural integration and a high level of motivation in UBA staff in the different countries to foster one UBA Family”.

Also, the new UBA Nigeria Division of the Group which will be managed by Mr. Apollos Ikpobe, Deputy Managing Director, DMD, Domestic Bank, will consolidate all of UBA’s Nigerian businesses into a single division and will comprise all the Regional Banks in Nigeria, Corporate Bank, Energy Bank, and UBA Pensions. The Nigeria division will intensify the bank’s focus on the Nigerian market, with the aim of expanding its market share, while deepening UBA’s wallet share of existing businesses.

Also in the announcement, Ms. Obi Ibekwe, formerly Executive Director, Human Resources and Customer Service is now the Executive Director, Resources overseeing Human Resources, Customer Service, Corporate Services and Procurement.

“These changes will have a strategic impact on our business as we take critical steps to fast track our Project Alpha initiatives and transformation process. Stakeholders will no doubt see significant results from the organisational and human capital repositioning we are making to enhance value creation in the Group’s operations” Oduoza said.

United Bank for Africa Plc is one of Africa’s leading financial institutions offering banking services to more than 7 million customers across 700 branches in 19 African countries. With presence in New York, London and Paris, UBA is connecting people and businesses across Africa through retail, commercial and corporate banking, innovative cross border payments, trade finance and investment banking.

“People are fabricating issues” – Ronke Oshodi finally speaks on her alleged failed marriage

Several months ago, there were reports that popular Actress, Ronke Oshodi had walked away from her husband and her home due to irreconcilable differences.

In her latest interview with Encomium, the Actress and mother of one who got married in 2009 has debunked the reports and explained why she doesn’t live with her husband, Anthony Gbolahan.

“There is nothing wrong with my marriage. That’s how people are just feeling. Recently, City People magazine celebrated me. I received an award. My husband was there with me. So if there was anything wrong with our union, would he be there? Things like that, you can’t hide them from the public. I just believe people only like fabricating issues for whatever reason or reasons best known to them” she said

Explaining why they don’t live together – Ronke’s husband lives in Surulere, while she lives in Ijaiye, Lagos “If you have a partner or spouse who is your friend, you will understand each other very well. Fine, I am a reserved person and on the other hand I am also into showbiz. So for me to manage these things, you have to be in a reserved person. For instance when you are going out or coming in, nobody knows your movement. Secondly, I am friendly but I don’t really like crowd. My husband likes Surulere, he is a Surulere person. I like surburbs like Abule-Egba, Ijaiye area and so on. So both of us know how to manage the situation.

Whenever I say I am going to Surulere, I just go there to catch fun, see people and things I love to see. But the fact remains even if I am in Surulere, people don’t really know I am there because I don’t go out. I am not an outgoing person. Most of the events you see me, its either I am invited as a Master of Ceremony or the celebrant is my friend.

Anytime I don’t go out and I am not on set, I go to my husband’s place in Surulere and he understands me very well. All these kidnappings here and there, one needs to be very careful. When they kidnap your child and they say they need ransom, what would you do? So we know how we manage the situation. He also comes to Ijaiye where I live. That’s where my mum lives” she concluded.

Mimiko’s government is worse than Agagu’s administration – LP chieftain

Dr. Benson Enikuomehin is a chieftain of the Labour Party in Ondo State and a former representative of the state on the board of NDDC. He spoke with DailyPost on the current face-off between him and the state governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko and the current challenges being
faced by Labour Party in the state.

EXCERPTS:

Que: Sir, it appears your relationship with Governor Olusegun Mimiko has gone sour going by your recent criticism of his government. What’s your take on that?

Ans: if that is the way people view it, so be it. I am a chieftain of the
Labour Party in Ondo State and that is the party in power in the
State. LP as a party, is beyond individuals in the party. As a member of the party, you are not bigger than the party. Governor Mimiko became the governor of this state on the platform of the party. If his government makes any mistake or does anything that could affect the party negatively or bring the name of the party into disrepute, it is the duty of the party leaders to call him to order. The LP government under the leadership of Governor Mimiko has failed to transform the state and perform its statutory responsibilities to the people of the state, particularly to the oil producing communities. This has been my grudge with the governor. My curiosity to know how the N48billion oil derivation accrued to Ondo State Oil Producing Area Development
Commission (OSOPADEC) since the inception of Mimiko’s government was spent has been the major issue between us.

Que: As a chieftain of the LP, do you think it is proper for you to
criticise a government controlled by your party (LP)?

Ans: About two weeks ago, I was on a TV programme in Lagos along with representatives of other political parties in the state. That was few days after the inconclusive Ilaje/Ese-odo bye-election. I was there to represent Labour Party, while others also spoke for their respective parties. We were to review the inconclusive bye-election in IlajeEse-Odo federal constituency and proffer possible solutions to avoid future occurrence of our past mistakes. During the programme, I admitted that Labour Party government in Ondo State has not done enough to justify the success of the party during the election or to seek for the people’s support during the election. I needed to say the truth in other to save the party from going into oblivion. The truth will always sound bitter in the ears of the evil doers and sycophants.
The challenge LP is facing in Ilaje/Ese-odo federal constituency today
resulted from the poor performance of the LP government in the state. As a patriotic Nigerian and a politician who doesn’t want to soil his name, I think I should not hesitate to say this anywhere,
anytime that the LP led government in the state has performed far below expectation.

Que: But do you think you have taken the right approach to this issue by going on air to criticise the governor?

Ans: I had met with the Governor on several occasions where I advised him to complete all the projects embarked upon by the late Agagu’s administration in the coastal area of the state before initiating new ones, particularly the Igbokoda/Ugbonla road and other road projects in the coastal area but he turned deaf ears and rebuffed my pleas and rather treated my entreaties with disdain. He has seen the repercussion of the neglect of the area now. During the bye-election, the people expressed their anger against our party (LP).

Que: You petitioned the IGP that some people were after your life and
that of your family members. How serious is this allegation?

Ans: Immediately after my appearance on Channels TV program, I started receiving numerous threat calls from people I suspect were agents of the state government and LP in the state. Even as at today, I still received threat calls. As I am talking to you, I have relocated my family from Akure to another state. This will not stop me from telling the truth. It is not everybody in the party that has the courage to walk up to the governor and say, Mr. Governor, you have not done well in so-so and so area, forgetting that the party is bigger than any individual. Mimiko became the governor of Ondo State on the platform of the LP. Whatever he does today, will tell on the party
tomorrow. The LP government in Ondo State has not done well. The
current administration in the state is worse than Agagu’s government

Que: You are a close ally of the governor and a strong member of LP in the state. Don’t you think that your outburst will have negative effect on your party?

Ans: During the last governorship election in the state. I was the LP
state returning officer. That tells you my relevance and status in the
party. The righteous in the party are in support of my action because they want the party to grow and outlive Governor Mimiko but the sycophants do not.

Que: The leadership of your party (LP) accused you of anti-party
activities during the inconclusive bye-election in Ilaje/Ese-odo
federal constituency, you were also accused of working for the PDP.
What is your take on this?

Ans: What is anti-party? If they accused me of anti-party, which means the Governor himself is guilty of same offence. Governor Mimiko is a chieftain of the LP in Ondo State. But in Abuja, he claims to be a PDP member. Everybody knows this. Is that not anti-party? Who is deceiving who? I am a chieftain of LP and if they because of my constructive criticism of Mimiko’s government suspend or expel me from the party, then it will be another phase of “war” or battle. The problem we had during the bye-election was engendered by the governor’s deceptive tendencies. How could the governor flag-off projects in an area he has neglected for over five years, few days to an election? The people knew he was doing that to cajole them in other to get their votes. The people are not fools. I am from that area so I know what I am saying. Ilaje and Ese-odo local governments are the economic pillars of Ondo State. The two councils generate billions of naira to the state coffers on a monthly basis. What has Mimiko’s government done with this money?

Que: The Ondo State government said your attack on Mimiko’s
government is a ploy to seek political relevance?

Ans: That is not correct. You see the government in Ondo State has
inflicted wounds on our party (LP) and we have invited doctors to
treat the wounds. I am one of the resident doctors. For the wound to
healed up on time, we need to clean it up thoroughly before applying any treatment. We need to open-up the wound and bring out the purse and make it ready for proper treatment. Although, it may be very painful, but we must endure it if we need quick positive result. I don’t know if you understand my parable.

Que: Your party and INEC in Ondo State have accused the Minister of State
for Defence, Musiliu Obanikoro of hijacking ballot boxes during the
bye-election, the allegation INEC commissioner in the state Akin
Orebiyi later retracted. What is your stand on this?

Ans: the allegation was not true. It was born out of Governor
Mimiko’s desperation to manipulate and win the election at all cause. On the day of the election, I was at Obe-Enikanselu unit in Ugbo ward. I never saw Obanikoro or heard of his presence in any part of the two councils. It is not good for somebody to make flippant statement. This is a statement you cannot substantiate.

Fayemi’s plan to establish school in Ifaki is a Greek gift

The Ayo Fayose Campaign Organisation has described the planned establishment of an Institute of Medical Technology in Ifaki-Ekiti, Ido/Osi Local Government Area of Ekiti State by Governor Kayode Fayemi as a “Greek gift” that should be rejected by the people of Ifaki-Ekiti.

In a statement on Tuesday by the Director General of AFCO, Chief Dipo Anisulowo, the planned Institute of Medical Technology was described as an insult to the people of Ifaki-Ekiti.

“It is only a wicked government that will take away a university from a community and come back three years after with a plan to replace it with an Institute of Medical Technology. Or isn’t it an act of wickedness to take an 18-seater Bus from someone and replace it with Okada?”

AFCO, which reiterated the promise of Ayo Fayose to return the University of Science and Technology, Ifaki-Ekiti, which was scrapped by the Fayemi administration, said “What Ifaki people deserve is a return of USTI and that is exactly what they will get the moment PDP takes over power on October 16, 2014.

Guys, 3 Alarm Signs She Is FED UP

by Ree, “The (Ree)lationship Guide

Generally speaking, women tend to be more considerate and forgiving than men. A woman’s nurturing spirit practically forces her to have a big, open heart. This “openness” sometimes leads women to bear the brunt of relationships — making her vulnerable to being used excessively. Like all things in life, there comes a time when her big, open heart grows small and closed. She becomes so fed up with being the core that holds the relationship together that she leaves… Sometimes her absence is not in the physical sense, but it is certainly in the spiritual and mental senses.

There are warning signs that she gives youbefore she clocks out of the relationship. If you’ve missed them, consider the relationship deαd because it will take you pouring in 110 precent of yourself to win her back — and even then, she may be reluctant to give you another try. Below are three signs that a woman is fed up with your B.S.:

1. She stops “nagging” or complaining. Do you remember how much she used to annoy you when she kept bringing up the same thing over and over again? All she ever wanted was for you to acknowledge her concerns and try to work on a solution. When she stops bringing up these issues, she has probably found someone who brings more joy to her life than misery.

2. She’s quick to walk away from the relationship. If you find her being eager to walk away from the relationship after a simple argument, she virtually has one foot in the relationship and one foot out. At this point, she’s just waiting on you to officially end the relationship so that she doesn’t walk away feeling guilty and/or like she made a mistake.

3. She doesn’t ask you any questions, ever. When you make a store run at 10 PM and don’t return until 1 AM, she doesn’t care. When you walk out of the bedroom to answer a phone call late in the evening, she doesn’t care. When you tell her you’re hanging out with friends that she knows are bad influences for you and she doesn’t object to your plans, she doesn’t care. In other words, when she stops asking you questions — whether it be from general concern about your well-being and/or a lack of trust — she has officially moved on. She doesn’t want to ask you any questions because she doesn’t want you questioning what she’s doing.

P-Square's publicist releases statement, says he never said it was all a publicity stunt

Yesterday P-Square's publicity Bayo Adetu was quoted as saying the fight between the brothers was all a publicity stunt, and that they all decided to play along. Well, after the backlash from fans, Mr Adetu has backtracked and claims he never made those comments. A statement he released below.

My attention has been drawn to one magazine interview quoting me that the purported P-Square break-up tale was a ‘publicity stunt.’ It was indeed a misconception on the part of the writer. I never said the rumour was a ‘publicity stunt.’

There is no way I could have granted an official interview and speak in such denigrating manner as being portrayed by the magazine in question.

I can remember talking to Star FM and NTA2, and it is on record that I never spoke in such unprofessional manner! Most importantly, I never said it was a ‘publicity stunt’ because that amounts to toying with the emotions of P-Square fans. I cherish the fans more than Diamond and therefore, I will never disrespect or toy with their emotions. Thanks for your understanding. Read the interview he supposedly granted to Icon magazine after the cut...

Greetings, Bayo, we heard that the Okoye brotherS have finally reconciled, can you give us an insight on what really happened?
After a long laugh… My brother, I’m telling you this as a friend, there was no fight at all. The whole thing started after Jude tweeted some days back and bloggers feasted on it and gave it several interpretations which never existed, and that was how we got here.

Are you saying there wasn’t a fight at all, how then did Peter and Paul keep releasing comments through their Facebook accounts?
My guy, I can authoritatively tell you that neither of the P-Square brothers, nor even Jude operate their Facebook accounts anymore. Whatever Facebook posted was from an impersonator, pretending to be anyone of them. P-Sqaure is active on twitter, not on facebook, so you see, the whole thing was founded on lies.

If what you are saying is true, why did they all tweet a reconciliatory tweet this morning indicating that they have mended fences?
There’s one thing you should know, P-Square are not politicians, neither are they businessmen to be worried about what one useless blogger or the other has to say about them.

In this game, bad publicity is good publicity. When we read those funny posts, we decided to play along with the general public and what they were meant to believe.

Yesterday, Thursday, April 24, 2014 was Jude Okoye’s birthday and he also used the opportunity to propose to his girlfriend while we laughed at the stupidity of some Nigerian bloggers.

We later decided to further play into their hands by reaching a consensus to tweet what they have termed the ‘reconciliation tweet’.

However as a journalist, I am pained that trained journalists allow themselves to be remoted by Linda Ikeji, a mere blogger without any professional training to stall them from investigating serious news material like this. These days, immediately Linda posts anything on her blog, journalists just go there and copy and paste the story without any checks and balances, it is outrightly wrong, I’m really upset about this.

She called me after posting the story and I just decided to ignore her calls, because I didn’t think we had anything more to say when the milk has been split.

I have taken my time to explain to you this way because, you are a friend and did not join the bandwagon.

As for those bloggers out there, I allowed them to write whatever they like; after all, they are consuming their Internet data, not mine

14yr old girl kills another 14yr old girl after Facebook fight over a boy

14 year old Endia Martin (pictured above) was killed on Monday April 28th by another 14 year old girl after they argued on Facebook about a boy. Is this what 14 year olds should be doing? Fighting over boys and killing each other? My goodness!

According to Chicago Times, the handgun used to kill Endia Martin had been brought to the scene by someone who knew the suspect and knew 'there was going to be a fight' Chicago police said

"What would have been, under any other circumstance, probably a fistfight between 14-year-old girls, because they were fighting over a boy, turned into a murder. You introduce a firearm and you have a murder." The police saidEndia was walking home from school when the other girl approached, pulled the gun and opened fire around 4:30 p.m on Monday in West Garfield Boulevard, Chicago, according to police. Endia was hit in the back and killed instantly.

The 14 year old girl has been charged as a juvenile with murder, while her 24-year-old uncle and a 17-year-old boy are also facing charges. The two are being held for giving the gun to the killer.
